From the desk of Fr. Brando . . . 2024
Do you think that Time goes by too fast?
Some time ago, I came across this reel that “gave us an answer” to the question, why does time seem to be going faster as we grow older? According to the creator of the reel, he stated: “time goes faster than usual when there is a sense of ‘familiarity’ with things that we do in a regular basis. When we do soothing over and over again, there is NO expectation. We already know what is about to happen. That sense of familiarity makes everything seem to flow in a hurry. Whether it passes quickly or not, time in anticipation of what we have to do or when we are planning our calendars gives us the notion that somethings have come very quickly. Although, we are in the month of April, as a parish community we are already getting ready for the month of May. “Mother’s month.” The month of Mary Help of Christians. May – Month dedicated to our Blessed Mother. Among our many catholic traditions, praying the Holy Rosary is one of the most humble, yet powerful way to honor our Blessed Mother. In our Parish we have the tradition of “early morning rosary, on Saturdays. Meeting at 6:00 AM in the garden dedicated to our Blessed Mother, we begin to pray the Rosary as we walk around the block. Waking up early on a Saturday morning is not part of “a weekend rest” for many of us; however, we offer this “small sacrifice,” as a tribute to our Blessed Mother, who deserves our love and thanksgiving prayers at “the beginning of our day,” for every favor and blessing bestowed upon us through her powerful and glorious intercession. For anyone interested in praying the Holy Rosary in English, we will do it at 6:45 AM, from Monday to Friday before our 7:00 AM daily Mass. Mother’s Day Envelopes Most of us have a special place in our heart for our Mothers. When the month of May comes or as we get closer to Mother’s Day, we all want to honor our mothers in a special way. To all those interested in having the name of your mother placed at the Altar, during the month of May, we are asking you to please give us the name of your mother written in our Parish Mother’s Day envelopes, before we start the month of May. |
March – St. Joseph’s month
March 19th is the solemnity of St. Joseph! Although, many people in our country honor St. Patrick on march 17th, I will dare to say that for some of us, March is the month dedicated to St. Joseph.
Among those who were great devotees and propagator of St. Joseph’s devotion, we have St. Teresa of Avila, who once said: “I took for my advocate and lord the glorious Saint Joseph and commended myself earnestly to him.
I wish I could persuade everyone to be devoted to the glorious St Joseph, for I have great experience of the blessings which he can obtain from God. I do not remember that I have ever asked anything of him which he has failed to grant. I am astonished at the great favors which God has bestowed on me through this blessed saint, and at the perils from which he has delivered me, both in body and in soul. To other saints, the Lord seems to have given grace to help us in some of our necessities. But my experience is that St Joseph helps us in them all; also that the Lord wishes to teach us that, as he was himself subject on earth to St. Joseph, so in heaven he now does all that Joseph asks. This has also been the experience of other persons whom I have advised to commend themselves to the saint. It is my hope that we can honor St. Joseph with the holy novena that will begin this Sunday, March 10, 2024 – after all mases. If you have any special petition, please do not hesitate to place them at St. Joseph’s altar.
Leonor, one of our parishioners, has given me the Family consecration prayer to St. Joseph. I encourage everyone to do it. Together as a family or by yourself bring your family to the care of St. Joseph. Ask for all the needed blessing for your home and for all those you love, especially those who are sick or those undergoing many trials. May St. Joseph grants us the miracle of a renewed faith. |
Living, with Joy, our Lenten Season
As we came to receive “our ashes,” we embrace the beginning of our Lenten Journey. A time of grace and personal conversion that invites us to change all those realities that take us away from God. Our parish community offers us during the weeks of Lent, “different activities,” and opportunities to journey with others as we take part of these suggested “catholic traditions;” Eucharistic Adoration It’s been said that during Lent we should “increase” our time of prayer. Spending some quality time before the Blessed Sacrament can do amazing things to our lives. Our parish exposes the Blessed Sacrament every Tuesday and Friday from 3:00 PM – 6:45 PM. An opportunity for us to be in the real presence of our Lord and savior. “Come and see,” Jesus said. Confessions The Sacrament of Holy Reconciliation or Confession is offered at our parish every Monday, during Lent, from 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM, Tuesdays, from 6:00 PM – 6:45 PM, and Saturdays between 4:30 PM – 5:15 PM. All are welcome!! The idea is that during the season of Lent a priest should be available for confessions at every church in our diocese every Monday from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM. Bishop Sweeney is encouraging every Christian to celebrate this beautiful sacrament with a different priest or confessor. Let us take advantage of this great opportunity to heal our souls from the wrong choices we have made. May our Blessed Mother be our companion during this holy season of Lent. Lectio Divina The opportunity to pray and meditate with our Sunday’s Gospel, every Thursday, at 6:00 PM – during 45 minutes – Let us allow ourselves to be formed and changed by God’s Holy word. Stations of the Cross One of the most beautiful ways to “walk” the steps of the Passion and crucifixion of our Lord. Every Friday at 6:00 PM, we will pray the Stations of the Cross in English. Please bring your children and Young people to this way of praying. |

410 Union Avenue Paterson, NJ 07502 Faithful parishioner and friend: It is my hope and prayer that you and your loved-ones are well. It feels that our Lenten journey has come rather faster than usual. In fact, Ash Wednesday, this year, is the same day as St. Valentine’s Day. Something rather unusual. As we approach our most holy season of Lent, with the celebration of Ash Wednesday, this coming February 14 th , 2024, we will enter a “very especial season,” one that will bring us through “the deserts of our fears,” into the joyful days of Easter. I am including in our bulletin the schedule of “the activities,” list of things to do during, our Lenten Journey, hoping that you can join us as we humble ourselves before our God. Please make sure that you will place “these things to do list” in the refrigerator or that special place where you are reminded of “important events.” Thanks for making us part of your journey of faith. Let us ask our Blessed Mother to guide and protect us as we embrace this holy journey, with our hope placed in the joy of the risen Lord, at Easter. With love and prayers, Fr. Brando Ibarra |

Brando Ibarra |
