Final Days of our Holy Lent
Time definitely goes by very quickly. "It seems like it was yesterday," (says a popular song by Armando Manzanero, a Latin singer), that holy ashes were imposed on our foreheads, with which we began our Holy Season of Lent. On Sunday, April 6, 2025, we will begin our last week of Lent. It is time to prepare ourselves to live, with its well-deserved devotion, our Holy Week. I don't know how you have lived your season of Lent. For some of us it has been a journey full of great blessings, we have tried to cultivate our prayer life, we have celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we have embrace our days of fasting and abstinence and we have even practiced works of mercy and charity. For others, they have been days of great challenges. We have the right intention, to pray, fast and exercise charity, but it has not been easy. I invite you to embrace these final days with joy. Let's intensify our prayer life a little bit more. Let us make the resolution to go to confession (in the sacraments of the Church we are invited to confess at least once a year); and finally, let us make the effort to fast and with the fruits of fasting, practice charity. Confession Times For those who wish to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, WELCOME! For the "brave" and those who wish to approach the confessional, the following will be our schedule: Monday 7:30 PM till the last person goes home Tuesday 6:00 PM – 6:45 PM Saturday 4:15 PM – 5:15 PM In our diocese the idea of going to confession on Monday’s night, during lent, was a “program” called “Welcome Home to Healing,” was promoted by Bishop Arthur Serratelli. In every church of the Diocese of Paterson, there should be a priest available to hear your confession, on Mondays from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM. Let us take advantage of this opportunity, offered by the Church, to reconcile ourselves with God, the Church, each other, and ourselves. A contrite, humbled heart, O God, you will not scorn |

FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT
First Reading: Isaiah 43:16-21 God says not to remember the events from long ago, but to focus on the things he plans to do next. He also claims he will again help his chosen people when they need him. Second Reading: Philippians 3:8-14 Paul describes knowledge of Jesus as more important than knowledge of the Old Law. He wishes to share in the power of Jesus' resurrection, and speaks of concentrating on the finish line of the race with salvation as the prize to be won. Gospel: John 8:1-11 Jesus preached forgiveness of sin, but in the old law those accused of adultery were to be stoned. So the Pharisees tried to trap Jesus and brought a woman accused of adultery to him, asking him what he would do to her. Jesus asked that one without sin cast the first stone, and then all of the elders left. Jesus told the woman that he did not condemn her, but warned her to avoid such sin in the future. |
